Yes. Farms, private estates and open fields are often excellent locations for professional firework displays, providing plenty of space and a stunning backdrop for weddings, private parties, corporate events and community celebrations.
However, simply having a large field doesn’t automatically make it suitable for fireworks. Every venue must be assessed individually to ensure there is sufficient space, safe spectator viewing areas and suitable firing positions.
At Reaction Fireworks, we’ve been providing displays at farms and private land throughout the UK for decades. From wedding receptions in converted barns to large public Bonfire Night events on agricultural land, every display begins with careful planning.
What Makes a Good Firework Site?
A suitable firing site should provide enough space to safely separate the firing area from spectators while allowing guests to enjoy an uninterrupted view of the display.
When assessing a site, we consider:
- The overall size of the land.
- The proposed spectator viewing area.
- The available firing positions.
- Trees, hedgerows and overhead cables.
- Nearby buildings.
- Roads and public footpaths.
- Neighbouring properties.
- The location of livestock or horses.
Every site is different, which is why professional planning is so important.
Do I Need Planning Permission?
Most private firework displays do not require planning permission simply because fireworks are being used.
However, larger organised events may require additional permissions or approvals depending on the nature of the event, the number of spectators and any associated activities such as temporary structures, amplified music or alcohol sales.
If you’re organising a large public event, we’ll be happy to discuss what may be required and, where appropriate, our sister company AH Events can assist with wider event planning and safety management.
What About Livestock?
If there are animals on or near the land, this should always be discussed during the planning stage.
We’ll consider:
- The distance between the firing site and animals.
- The type of livestock present.
- Whether low-noise fireworks would be appropriate.
- The direction of firing.
- The safest location for the display.
Careful planning often allows a display to proceed successfully while minimising disturbance.
Can Fireworks Be Fired Near Barns?
Yes, provided suitable safety distances can be maintained.
Barns, agricultural buildings and other structures form part of our site assessment, along with any stored materials that may require additional consideration.
We’ll always identify the safest firing position before confirming the display design.
Do I Need Permission If I Don’t Own the Land?
Yes.
If the display is taking place on land you do not own, you’ll need permission from the landowner before any arrangements are made.
Many wedding venues, farms and private estates already have established procedures for approving professional firework displays.
Can You Visit the Site Beforehand?
Absolutely.
For many displays, particularly larger events or venues we’ve not visited before, a site visit forms an important part of the planning process.
This allows us to assess the venue properly, answer any questions and ensure the display is designed specifically for your location.
Why Experience Matters
Open countryside can present challenges that aren’t immediately obvious.
Changes in ground level, prevailing winds, nearby woodland, public rights of way and neighbouring farmland can all influence the design of a professional display.
Having worked at rural venues throughout the UK for many years, we understand how to assess these factors and create displays that are both spectacular and safe.
Whether you’re planning a wedding on a family farm, a charity Bonfire Night event or a private celebration on your own land, we’ll help you determine the most suitable approach for your venue.
Expert Tip
Many people assume that the biggest field is automatically the best place to fire fireworks. In reality, the ideal firing position is often determined by where your guests will be standing, the direction of the wind and the surrounding landscape. A professional site assessment will always identify the safest and most impressive location for the display.
